DRAFT — pending counsel review (roadmap P1-T07). Not yet in force.

Location Policy

Last updated: July 17, 2026. This is a draft. It has not been reviewed by counsel and is not yet in force.

1. Why we need background location

CaddiDaddy's core promise is a scorecard that fills itself in — you play, we detect the shot, we know the hole, and we know the distance, without you touching your phone. That only works if we can read your GPS position continuously during a round, including while your phone is in your bag and the app is not on screen. Without background location, automatic shot detection cannot work: we would not know where you are when a shot happens, and the app would fall back to manual entry for every hole.

2. What we collect

3. Precision

We use your device's most precise available GPS reading during a round, because shot detection and distance measurement depend on it — a coarse, approximate location is not accurate enough to tell which hole you're on or how far your last shot travelled.

4. Retention

Your round's GPS trace is retained as part of your round history for as long as your account is active, so you can review past rounds and stats. If you submitted a course survey or pin report, the trace or point behind it may be retained longer as part of our proprietary course database (see Section 5), independent of your personal round history. Deleting your account removes your personal location history; see our Privacy Policy for the full deletion process.

5. How your traces improve the course data

Anonymized, aggregated GPS traces from real rounds help us refine tee, green, hazard, and pin geometry over time — more golfers playing a hole means more confidence in that hole's data. This proprietary layer is built and stored completely separately from OpenStreetMap data (see our attribution page); your traces contribute to our own database, not to OpenStreetMap.

6. Turning it off — and what breaks

You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. If you do:

7. Sharing

We do not sell location data. It is processed on our own infrastructure (Cloudflare D1/R2/Durable Objects) for the purposes above. See our Privacy Policy for our full list of processors.
